Launch of Impact Lab Report Findings Thursday 15 September 2022
On the 15th September 2022 the Champion Foundation Trust launched the Impact Lab Report at an event held at the Christchurch Club. Maria and Sir Bill English from Impact Lab shared their in-depth research into the social impact of the Champion Centre. Their report showed that few charities or services in New Zealand can compete with the effectiveness and level of service delivery that the Champion Centre prides itself on.
Other incredible speakers at the event included Champion Centre alumni Bella Lammers, who shared the story of her exciting life, highlighting what good early intervention can lead to, and Georgia Heard who eloquently spoke of her experience at the Champion Centre with her son who has recently moved on to school. Coen Lammers did a wonderful job as MC and Dr Patricia Champion shared some of the foundations of the Champion Centre model. Celia Barker, Chair of the Champion Foundation Trust, rounded off the evening.
We wish to thank all speakers and supporters for a wonderful evening. Please click on the link below to see a power point presentation of the Impact Lab Report along with videos on each of the speakers from the evening.

Successful golf fundraiser Friday 26 March 2021
Friday 26 March saw a perfect forecast for The Champion Foundation Trusts 'Charity Golf Day' at Christchurch Golf Club. With a full register of 'serious golfers', they set off to pitch their golfing prowess against each other, and help to make a difference to the long term sustainability of The Champion Centre, through The Champion Foundation’s fundraiser. An excellent day was had by all. Many thanks to Craigs Investment Partners who supported this event as the day's major sponsor, and all those whose generous support and contributions made this event a big success. Over $32,000 was raised from the event. Bella, a Champion Centre graduate, certainly showed her skills, lending a hand on the bbq. We are sincerely grateful for the generosity of the many individuals and businesses that continue to support The Foundation, and in turn the many young children and their families that receive therapy and support from the Champion Centre. Support continues to come in a variety of ways. Some events include:
- A function was held at the beautiful home of the John and Anna Tooby. The Foundation was immensely appreciative of their kindness in offering their residence for this occasion. The Tom Rainey Trio entertained, as well as Champion Centre graduate Andrew Oswin, who played the piano beautifully.
- A further superb event was held at the Tooby home, where musician Ben Waters and his band played. Ben holds the accolade as the ‘best boogie pianist in Europe’. A special guitar signed by Ray Davies of the Kinks was also auctioned.
- In response to the Christchurch 2011 earthquakes, a number of Aucklanders wanted to show their support. A fundraiser was held at Florence Court, the residence of John and Alma Sax. Dr. Simon Rowley, a leading Auckland neo-natal paediatrician and former parent spoke. Also, Henry Van Asch gave a memorable account of his own son’s time at the Centre. This was a very heart-warming event that marked the inception of the Champion Foundation. We were very grateful for the $100,000 that was raised.
- A Trust and Bequest lawyers’ function was held at The Christchurch Club, to raise awareness of the Champion Foundation and Champion Centre with lawyers who specialise in wills and bequests.
- A successful golf day at Clearwater Golf Club, organised by Kate Burtt and friends.
- Speights’ Alehouse event hosted by Tony Clarke and MC, broadcaster James Daniels.
